John Christopher “Chris” Shaffer, 49, died Friday, December 13, 2019 at Trident Medical Center in Charleston. Born April 9, 1970, in Warner Robins, GA, he was a son of the late Gary B. Shaffer and the late Corliss Jenkins Barrett. Mr. Shaffer was a member of Sumter First Church of God. He worked as an Engineering Technician at Joint Base Charleston. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kathryn Shaffer, and Morgan Elizabeth Shaffer; a son, Benjamin Christopher Shaffer; one brother, Blair Shaffer (Kimberley); one sister, Teriann Nash (Tommy); step-father, Don Barrett; and a number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sumter First Church of God with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Anderson, Jeff Ardis, Daryle Skey, and David Peek. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sumter First Church of God, and other times at the home of Tommy and Teriann Nash, 6 Snowden Street.
