Robert Douglas “Doug” Hodge, 65, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Warriors Walk Hospice, WBJ Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC, after battling cancer for several years. Born February 2, 1952, in Sumter, SC, he was a son of the late Robert Edward Hodge and the late Myrtle Ridgeway Hodge. Doug was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Sumter, but more importantly a follower of Jesus Christ. He worked and served in managerial positions for Winn Dixie stores in Sumter prior to his retirement. He served as a volunteer in the OMNI project as a mentor for veterans. Survivors include a brother, Raymond Larry Hodge and his wife, P.J.; two sisters, Louise Hodge Amos and her husband, Stanley, and Kathy Hodge Prickelmyer and her husband, Tony; four nieces and two nephews along with their children. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Edward Hodge. Visitation with his family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Saturday at Salt and Light Church, 360 Miller Rd., Sumter, SC. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 or to Veterans Hospital. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
