Virginia McHone Obituary

Virginia “Ginnie or GG” Atkinson McHone, 84, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born March 19, 1933, in the Ashwood Community of Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Clarendon Barron Atkinson and the late Georgia Louise Merchant Atkinson. She retired from Campbell Soup Company and the U.S.D.A. Survivors include two daughters, Bobbi Jo McHone Proctor of Sumter and Janette Lee McHone Morris (Mike) of Wedgefield; six grandchildren, Lamar Proctor, Jr. (Janine), Donnie Morris (Andrea), Rusty Morris (Rachel), Megan Burnish (William), Toby Morris (Courtney), and MacKenzie Hurst; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Casey Proctor; a sister, Mary Frances Velgus; and a brother, Rudolph Atkinson. Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mitch Towery officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 75817, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
