Joseph Lee Trueblood Obituary

Joseph Lee Trueblood was born on March 21, 1957 in Pine Ridge, SD to Edward Sears Trueblood and Imogene Louis Uherka-Trueblood. Joseph made his journey to the Spirit World on April 4, 2020 after an apparent heart attack at the Pine Ridge I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD. In 1965, Joe’s family, along with grandparents, Richard and Eunice Link moved to Missouri. Joe attended school in Crocker, Missouri and graduated from high school there in 1975. Joe was a diverse man. He had many interests, occupations and talents. A constant throughout his life, however, was his ability to endear himself to others with his quick wit, humor, ready smile and absolute appreciation of life. He loved nature, gardening, reading, fishing, sports and writing poetry. Going to the river or just shooting the breeze with his friends made him the happiest. He was very proud of his Lakota heritage and his homeland. His family and friends he loved fiercely. His kindness and sweetness of spirit has been attested to repeatedly during the days following his death. However, he was not to be taken lightly. His many years as a decorated Missouri State Penitentiary Officer is evidence of that. He was very proud of those years and developed many lifelong friendships among his coworkers and fellow guards in Jefferson City, Missouri. Joe also worked for several years in the construction industry in the states of Oklahoma and Missouri. Again, his personality allowed for lasting friendships and correspondence. For the last several years Joe made his home in Pine Ridge. He proudly worked at Pine Ridge Building Products and was treated like family by the owners, Ed and Sheila Abold. His beloved dog and best friend, Cowboy is now in their safekeeping. Joe is survived by his sons, Justin Trueblood of St. Louis, MO and Brian (Genesis Vivas) Trueblood of Chicago, IL; siblings, Rosalyn Dawn (Trueblood) Beasley of Holts Summit, MO, Paul D. Trueblood of Pine Ridge, SD, and Darrell W. (Bitsy) Trueblood of Wounded Knee, SD; granddaughter, Willow Trueblood of Chicago, IL; and many well loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Edward S. and Imogene Trueblood; brother, Michael Edward Trueblood; grandmothers, Eunice LaPointe Link and Louise “Lulu” Sears-Trueblood; step-grandfather, Richard W. Link; and grandfathers, Louis William Uherka and Benjamin Trueblood.
