Mel Verdell Lone Hill was born on September 8, 1948 at the family homestead along Three Mile Creek, South of Kyle, SD to Amos Lone Hill and Marie (Fools Crow) Lone Hill. Mel passed away on February 20, 2018 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Mel is survived by his spouse, Geneva (Yellow Hair) Lone Hill of Batesland, SD; his son, Jason (Joanna) Lone Hill of Sharps Corner, SD; his daughters, Devonna, Trina (Bryce), and Roxann (Naiche) of Batesland, SD; Four (4) grandsons, Jase, Mathias, Callan, and Logan; Four (4) grand-daughters, Bella, Wicahpi, Eve, and Zaniya; sisters, Cora (Daniel) Spotted Eagle, Vina Yankton of Kyle, SD, Pamela (James) Attack Him, Lolita (Steve) Attack Him of Allen, SD, and Lois White Whirlwind of Oglala, SD; his nephews, Waylon Dean Spotted Eagle, Duane Spotted Eagle, Will Spotted Eagle, Denny Spotted Eagle, Lloyd Yankton Jr., Donroy Janis; his nieces, Troylynne Rock, Darla Janis, Michelle Yellow Hawk, Danielle Spotted Eagle, Lynelle Young, Mattie Yankton; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Marie Lone Hill; paternal grandparents, Lester Lone Hill and Eva White Thunder; maternal grandparents, Andrew Frank Fools Crow and Fannie Afraid of Hawk; brothers, Everette and Daniel Lone Hill; and three sisters, Mildred Lone Hill, Phenette Lone Hill and an infant sister.
