Adela Turnbull Obituary

Adela Ann (Addie) Turnbull returned to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 17, 2019. She was 85 years young when God called her home from the Platte Care Center, Avera. Addie was born on December 10, 1933 to Walter P. and Anna M. (Pimper) Carr in Plymouth, NE. She had one sister, Sonja and a brother, Dean. She was united in marriage to Paul A. Turnbull on June 3, 1950. Adela attended and graduated from Beatrice High School in Beatrice, NE. She enjoyed hard work from the age of 15 when she had her own Radio Show on KWBE in Beatrice. She also managed all three theaters in Beatrice, established and owned her own restaurant “Addie’s Café” in Beatrice, NE. After moving to Hallam, NE Addie purchased a highway front building in Cortland, NE and opened an Antique Store. She was also a licensed Real Estate Agent. Addie enjoyed collecting Antiques, camping, singing, visiting the river and her Eagles at the National Eagle Preserve in Wabasha, MN. Her number one hobby though was her Family, never missing a birthday or school event. She was a member of Olive Presbyterian Church in Platte, SD. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul A. Turnbull of Platte; two daughters: Paula A. Turnbull of Platte and Rebecca M. (Terry) Lowe of Roca, NE; one son, Paul S. (April) Turnbull of Platte; two grandchildren: Amanda M. (Jeremy) Carnes of Bennet, NE and Nathan K. Lowe of Lincoln, NE; and three great grandchildren: Zachary, Addison, and Asher also of Bennet, NE. Adela was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and brother. Addie requested that no formal funeral or memorial be held. The Platte Enterprise will carry a full tribute to her life in the February 28, 2019 issue.
