Arlan Dale Kuipers Obituary

Arlan Dale Kuipers, 74, of Platte, SD passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 at Ava’s House by Sanford in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services are 1:30 P.M. Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at Old Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 – 1:30 P.M. on Thursday. The service will be live-streamed under "Photos and Videos" on our website, through “Mount Funeral Homes” Facebook page. Arlan Dale Kuipers was born on September 15, 1946 to Henry A. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Oldekamp) Kuipers in Mitchell, SD. He attended Platte Christian Grade School and graduated from Dakota Christian High School in 1965. He served in the Army National Guard for 28 total years from January 1967 – August 1994, spending three and a half of those years as an Army Reserve School Instructor. On July 21, 1967 Arlan was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Mattson at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. Arlan had been employed as a Mechanic with John Deere Implement, was Manager of DeSoto Engineering in Blair, NE, and part of the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Maintenance Department. To Arlan, it was a real honor to have assisted Vern Van Dusseldorp with his farming operations. He enjoyed watching the programs of the SonLife Broadcasting Network, going roller skating, and especially liked attending family outings and reunions. Arlan had multiple achievements during his Army Reserve career and his time with SD Game, Fish and Parks; but being the best Husband, Dad and Grandpa he could be, was one of his highest. Grateful for having shared in Arlan’s life: his wife of over 53 years, Patricia Kuipers of Platte, SD; three children: Dylene (James) Gilb of San Diego, CA, Aaron (Michelle) Kuipers of Snow Hill, MD and Marybeth (Chris) Bliss of Anthem, AZ; seven grandchildren: Josiah, Samuel and Faith Gilb, Dominic Kuipers, Gracelyn, Zane and Lilly Bliss; three brothers: Jim Kuipers of Platte, SD, Doug Kuipers of Platte, SD and Robert Kuipers of Tyndall, SD; along with many nieces and nephews. Arlan was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Kuipers; an infant sister, Brenda; parents-in-law, Willy and Mary Mattson; a brother-in-law, Vern Van Dusseldorp; and several cousins.
