Melvin Ray Purviance, age 82, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Southside Cemetery. Melvin's family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Melvin entered into this life on August 6, 1935 in Cannelton, Indiana to Hatzel Sidney Purviance and Edna May Dixon Purviance. As a young man, Melvin served six years in the United States Air Force and another two years in the Air Force Reserves. He was a retired butcher and worked a number of years for Houchen's Grocery. Melvin was a Methodist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step daughter, Elaine Ashby and great grandson, Dusty Greenup. Survivors include his loving wife, Janie Imogene Potts Purviance; children, Steve Purviance and Brenda Massey; step daughters, Corene Jones and Cynthia Travis (Billy); and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Darrin Greenup, Neal Ladd, Mike DiFiore, Joe DiFiore, Tony Togia, and Bobby Grimes.
