Samuel B. Casey, age 87, Erwin, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Erwin Health Care. He was a native of Abingdon, VA but had lived in the Limestone Cove Community for fifty-five years. Mr. Casey is a son of the late James P. and Margaret E. Reynolds Casey. He was a machine operator at Snap On Tools as well as a timber-man and farmer. Mr. Casey was a member of Erwin Bible Holiness Church where he served as an Elder. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Etter Casey on November 30, 2013; one son, Douglas Allen Chappell; four sisters: Nellie Cassidy, Ruthey Casey on October 3, 2017, Ella Mae Cox and Lois Casey. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, three sons: Bradley Casey and wife, Lora, Shane Casey, all of Unicoi, Reverend Kim Casey and wife, Tonya, Erwin; nine grandchildren: Joshua Casey, James Casey, Hannah Cole and husband, Dakota "Bubba", Elisabeth Casey, Elijah Casey, Pamela Ollis, Julie Whitis, Chloe Casey and Brandon Casey; four great grandchildren: Anna Casey, Drake Casey, Chentae Shelton and Caroline Whitis; three brothers: Bill Casey and wife, Linda, Charlie Casey and wife, Margaret, all of Abingdon, VA, Rufus Casey, Bristol, TN; six sisters: Edith Ferguson, Irene Dye, both of Bristol, TN, Betty Lovell, McMinnville, TN, Ruby Honeycutt, Lenoir, NC, Linda Duncan, Grants Pass, OR, Brenda Bailey, Bristol, VA; special friend, Johnny Russell, in whom he was like a son to him; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 6:00 P. M. until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the sons' residence. Evangelist Johnny Persinger and Reverend Joshua Gladson will officiate at the 8:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Sounds of Victory. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 P. M. Wednesday in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210.
