Welza Hensley
Welza Barnet Hensley, age 92, 4489 Old Asheville Highway, Flag Pond, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Silas and Martha Blankenship Hensley. Mr. Hensley was a farmer. He attended Lower Rice Creek Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Hensley on June 3, 2004; one grandson, Harold Lee Byrd on August 16, 2013; one brother, Don Hensley; three sisters: Mafrie Rice, Dollie Crain, Nola Briggs and infant sister, Clara. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, one son, Clyde Hensley and wife, Katrina; one daughter, Mildred Mae Bell Byrd and husband, Harold, all of Flag Pond; two brothers: Russell Hensley, Marion NC, Willard Rex Hensley and special friend, Kay Garris, Unicoi; one sister, Geneva Hazel Shelton of Indiana; five grandchildren: Myra Harris and husband, Lonnie, Flag Pond, Melissa Arrowood and husband, Kenny, Johnson City, Amanda Hensley, Kayla Hensley and Nicole Hensley, all of Flag Pond; four great grandchildren: K. J. Arrowood, William Arrowood, Karliee Arrowood and Courtney Harris; a host of nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service on Sunday, October 8, 2017 in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel and other times at Mae Bell and Harold Byrd's residence, 4489 Old Asheville Highway, Flag Pond. Reverend Craig Shelton, Reverend Harold Lewis and Reverend Larry Robinson will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Courtney Harris. Mr. Hensley's nephews will serve as pallbearers. Committal service will be held at 11:15 A. M. on Monday, October 9, 2017 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:45 A. M. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
