Bertha Chism

Mrs. Bertha V. Chism was born on January 27, 1930 in Denmark, Tennessee to the late Remus and Virgie Bates. She died on May 5, 2015 after a long illness. She was educated in the public school system. She attended Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she confessed her faith in Christ. Mrs. Chism met and married Willie E. Chism in September of 1950. To this union, three children were born. She and her husband were active members at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Before becoming ill, she was a dedicated member of the Home Missionary Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were her husband, Willie E. Chism; five sisters: Elnora Bates Douglas, Louise Short, Lottie Hopgood, Bessie Carroll and Naomi Long; two brothers: Remus Bates, Jr. and Laymon Bates. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Dorsey (Curtis) Kendrick, Sue (Roosevelt) McKinney, Viola (Rickey Kinnes) Chism; four grandchildren: Monica Kendrick, Curtis Duane (Dacia) Kendrick, Kara McKinney and Brian McKinney; four great-grandchildren: Brianna Kendrick Tyvion Kendrick, Jayden Kendrick, Sarai McKinney; a brother, Joseph Bates; a sister, Mary Francis Henning; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
