Mother Vessie McGee Bond was born May 27, 1924. She completed her earthly circle and God called her up to Glory with all smiles from her journey in life on the morning of July 22, 2014 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. During her early years of life, she professed her hope in Christ and united with Blair’s C. M. E. Church. She later joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church No. 2. Her early years of education was done at Blair’s Chapel School. She completed her high school education with the Madison County School System. Ms. Vessie was employed at Lane College as a supervisor of Food Services. Mother Vessie loved her church and she served on many positions in discipleship of Bethlehem. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Liz Bond of Auburn Hills, MI, Clarice (Zane) Bond Odneal of Pontiac, MI and Irene (Lonnie) Bond Williams of Jackson, TN; six sons: Rev. James Frank Bond of Pontiac, MI, Fenner (Barbara) Bond of Jackson, TN, David Bond of Pontiac, MI, Marvin (Marie) Bond of Jackson, TN, Dennis (Eileen) Bond of Orlando, FL, Jeffery (Sheila) Bond of Morrisville, NC; fifteen grandchildren: Lonnette Williams of Jackson, TN, Jennifer Odneal of Dallas, TX, Vanessa Daniels of Pontiac, MI, Jackie “Little Jack” Odneal of Pontiac, MI, Keion “Kippy” Bond of St. Louis, MO, Mia Bond of Pontiac, MI, Brittney Bond of Jackson, TN, Hope Bond of Jackson, TN, Lorerela Overton of Jackson, TN, David Herring of Huntsville, AL, Marvin “Edwin” Bond, Jr. of Jackson, TN, Bionca Bond of Phoneix, AZ, Shaleea Bond of Morrisville, NC, Brandon Bond of Morrisville, NC, Deyeasa “Dee” Bond of Silver Springs, MD; nineteen great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, one great-great-great grandchild; special brother-in-law, Lonzie Lee Bond of Jackson, TN; three special sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Reeves of California, Katherine Bond of Denmark, TN, Georgia Bond of Jackson, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Many of her close relatives preceded her in death including her mother, Thelma Neely; father, Fenner McGee; husband, James F. Bond; daughter, Trudy Bond; two grandchildren, Tony Matthew Bond, Jason Donovan Odneal; two sisters, Margarete Haynes, Lonnie Mae Dixson; two brothers, Earnest Bond and Isaac Dixson.
