John Wallace, Sr.

John Daniel “J. D.” Wallace, Sr. – passed away at home on July 14, 2017 at the age of 87. J. D. was a lifelong member and well known Sunday School Teacher at Miller’s Chapel Methodist Church. J. D. was born and raised in Union County and began his career as a coach at Horace Maynard High School in Maynardville. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the State of Tennessee Employment Security for many years and was the State of Tennessee Employment Security Commissioner from 1974 – 1977. J. D. was active in Tennessee state democratic politics for most of his life of which he was most proud and was a former Treasurer of the Tennessee State Democratic Party. Before he retired, he worked in the banking industry and was well known in the banking circles of East Tennessee. In his retirement, he enjoyed seeing the success of his son and grandson. J. D. is preceded in death by father and mother, Roy and Nell (Mize) Wallace; and wife, Joann (Tharp) Wallace. He is survived by son, John Daniel “Danny” Wallace, Jr.; grandson, John Daniel “J. D. III” and wife, Kaitlin; special friend Joy Ogle Carter and her daughter, Haley Carter; and former daughter-in-law, Lisa Hurt Wallace. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kathy Chesney of Miller’s Chapel Methodist Church and Reverend Ken Luton officiating.
