Harriet Garland Hopson, age 82, Unicoi, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2019 at her residence, while she was surrounded by her loving family. She was a daughter of the late John and Grace Danner Garland. Harriett grew up in Elk Park, NC and lived in Unicoi County for the past fifty-four years. She was a member of Unicoi Baptist Church. Harriet was a devoted wife and wonderful mother. She loved being a caregiver to others and was known as the community “mother”. Harriet enjoyed swimming. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Herbert Garland and brother, Ted Hodges; daughter-in-law, Rita Hopson. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty-two and a half years, Speedy Hopson; two sons: David Hopson (Debra), Greg Hopson, all of Jonesborough; two daughters: Carol Ann Hopson, Chattanooga; Angie McInturff, Unicoi; two brothers: Dwight Garland (Diane), TX, Johnny Garland (Karen), Boca Raton, FL; one sister, Carolyn Harnish, Melborne, FL; eight grandchildren: Seth Pangle (Chasidy), John Pangle, Ryan Hopson (Amanda), Josh Hopson, Luke Hopson, Erika Hopson, Jessica Bacon (Ben) and Cody McInturff; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Home Health Care Worker, Stephanie Weaver for taking such wonderful care of our mother. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. David Hopson will officiate the 2:00 P.M. funeral service. Interment will follow in Swingle Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
