Robert Woodby Obituary

Robert Franklin Woodby, age 92, Unicoi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Center on Aging and Health. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Barnett William Woodby and Bessie Gaddy Woodby. Mr. Woodby moved to Detroit in 1954, where he lived most of his life before returning to Unicoi in 1995. He retired from Bar Steel Corporation in 1988, where he worked as a Crane Operator with thirty-four years of service. Mr. Woodby was of the Church of God faith. He was a member of the National Guard and one of the founding members of the Horney Head Fishing Club. Mr. Woodby loved to fish with his fishing buddies, Kenneth and Jerry. He was also an avid deer hunter and outdoors-man. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Dean Shehan Woodby on September 23, 2005; five brothers: Cecil, James, B.W., Charlie and Brownlow Woodby; three sisters: Nellie Woodby, Sarah White and Lois Woodby. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons: Timothy “Tim” Woodby, Johnson City and Anthony “Tony” Woodby (Doreen), Warren, MI; two daughters: Linda Jordan, Unicoi, Sandra Burnett (Kenneth), Harper Woods, MI; two grandchildren: Douglas Jordan (Sherry), and Mary Sue Certo (Jamie); three great grandchildren: Leiann Drugish (Cameron), Hunter Jordan and Bobby Buono; two great-great grandchildren: Jayden Buono and Jaxon Drugish; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at the Center on Aging and Health. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dallas Gregg and Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate at the 2:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Anderson Cemetery.
