Mrs. Lou Annie (Work) Burton, 89, of Hornbeak died 4:42 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Hornbeak Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery at Hornbeak. Danny Butler and Bill Haynie will officiate.
Mrs. Burton was born May 15, 1919, in Lake County, Tennessee, daughter of the late Linn Beasley and Emma Dee (Rouse) Work. She married Jess W. "Billy" Burton May 8, 1943. He died July 31, 1995. She was the owner & operator of the former Burton's Greenhouse and Wayside Florist near Hornbeak and a member of the Hornbeak Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Gene Forrest of Hornbeak and Bonita and Bill Siler of Germantown; two grandsons, Leo "Guy" Forrest of Union City and Troy Forrest of Paris; five great grandchildren, Joseph Forrest, Jessica Forrest, Jody Forrest, Brooke Forrest and Blake Forrest all of Union City; and one great great granddaughter, Alexis Forrest of Union City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son Jess W. "Peewee" Burton, Jr., one sister Henrietta Work Roberson and two brothers, Linn B. Work, Jr. and James Houston Work.
The family will receive friends at Hornbeak Church of Christ from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services on Saturday.
Pallbearers to serve will be Harold Burton, Eb Gwaltney, Bubba Smith, Woody Emery, Larry Smith and William Earl Burton.
