Mrs. Sherry (James) Reed, 63, of Samburg died 8:10 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Dale Batchelor will officiate. Burial will follow in Terrace Hill Cemetery.
She was born March 24, 1947, in Union City, daughter of Ray Nelle (Huey) James McMillon of Obion and the late Leroy James. She married Gerald Reed on September 30, 1997. He survives. She had been employed at HIS Manufacturing and Lakeview Dining Room in the 1970s and '80s. She was National Crime Information Center certified as a dispatcher and was employed by the Union City Police Department from 1991-1994. She attended Samburg Pentecostal Church and was known for her cooking and ability as a seamstress. Mrs. Reed was a 1965 graduate of Obion County Central High School and was the 1964 Miss OCCHS.
Survivors also include her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Bramlett of Nashville; her son, Kyle Simmons of Hornbeak; her stepson, Michael Reed of Tiptonville; four grandchildren, Kealey Bramlett of Nashville, Blake Simmons and Abigail Simmons both of Hornbeak, and Emma Grace Reed of Four Points; her niece and her husband, Amy and Jimmy Pitts of Obion; her great nephew, Hunter Walker of Obion; her great niece, Alaina Walker of Obion; two aunts, Rose Huey of Horbeak and Mozelle Flippen of Union City; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Terrance Huey; her paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Bill James; her stepfather, Robert McMillon; her sister, Susan Hickman; and her stepson, Brad Reed.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Bill Mitchell, Larry Mitchell Jr., Dennis Mitchell, Hunter Walker, Jimmy Pitts, Gaylon Long, Billy Wayne Long and Max Grimes.
The family requests memorials take the form of donations to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, New York 10016.
