Mr. Stephen R. "Steve" Byars, 50, of Union City died 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Jerry Leggett and Brother Eddie Mallonee will officiate. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
He was born April 26, 1960, in Plymouth, Michigan, son of the late Ralph and Doris Helen (Jimmerson) Byars. Steve was employed as a floor tech at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City where he had served on the bus committee, was a bus driver and a nursery volunteer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Tuck) Byars, whom he married December 12, 1980; his son Adam Byars (wife Sarah Elizabeth) and his grandson, Stephen Thomas Byars all of Marion, Arkansas; two sisters, Beverly Molands and Cathy Reynolds both of Union City; his mother-in-law, Ouida Osborne of Union City; his brother, David Byars (wife Carol) of Union City; three brothers-in-law, Paul Mark Tuck of White City, Kansas, Buster Tuck (wife Lockie) and David Tuck (wife Tammy) all of Union City.
He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Leigh Ann Byars; his grandson, Micah Gibson Byars; his granddaughter, Emma Claire Byars; three brothers, Ralph Edward Byars, Rick Byars and Stewart Byars; and an infant sister.
The family will receive friends at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Dugger, Ben Killebrew, Randy Molands, Frankie Molands, Jamie Byars, Tony Eaves, Buster Tuck and David Tuck.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Second Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Second Baptist Church Bus Fund, 831 N. Everett Blvd., Union City, Tennessee 38261.
