Elaine E. Zelle Peterson, 95, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Services will be Monday, February 20, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange St. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M.~ 4:00 P.M. Sunday, February 19, 2017 in North’s Memorial Chapel. Elaine was born October 21, 1921 in Oakville, Iowa to Ray and Minnie (Swanson) Zelle. Tribute to My Mom, Elaine Zelle Peterson was born just prior to the Great Depression and lived through the period when food was rationed and you had very little to the times of abundance, opportunity, and modernization. She married Kenneth H. Peterson when she was in her 30’s and had two daughters Kim and Pam. She was a housewife and traveled a lot during her husband’s military career. After settling in Abilene, Texas she was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and volunteered for numerous festivities, lifetime member of the Abilene Geneology Society, the VFW and was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She is preceded in her death by her parents Ray and Minnie Violet Zelle, her “Warrior” and the Love of her life husband Colonel Kenneth H. Peterson, daughter Kim Kristine, brother and sister in law Raymond and Joan Zelle, sister and brother in law Altarose “Sally” and Elmo Hite. She survived by her daughter and son in law Pam and George Fiedler. Granddaughter and grandson Melissa and Travis Cagle. Grandsons Aaron and Austin Downing. Step granddaughters Tara and Lenzie Fiedler. Great-grandchildren, Emery, Meritt, Luke, Yazmine Lakelyn, Kya, Camrin, Jory, and baby Troyce. Pallbearers are Aaron Downing, Austin Downing, Bob Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Robert Burkhart and Lisa Burkhart. Online condolences can be made at northsfuneralhome.com
