Wilma D. Gibson Coode, 93, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Hendrick Hospice Care Center, Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 25, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., at Trinity Baptist Church, Henderson, where she had been the oldest attending member until her move to Abilene in April 2017. A private family interment at Rusk County Memorial Gardens will be at a later date. With North’s Funeral Home making the arrangements, 242 Orange Street Abilene, Texas. She was born April 17, 1924, in Crims Chapel, to Wylie Raif and Sallie Lucille Gibson. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1940. Wilma married the love of her life, the late Wendell Buford Coode, on July 20, 1946. They were married 42 years at the time of his passing in 1988. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wylie Raif and Sallie Lucille Gibson, her husband, Wendell Buford Coode, brother, Joseph Weldon Gibson, and sisters, Alice Maurine Gibson, Ova Bell Gibson Broyles, Thelma Julia Gibson McPhail, and Sallye Maude Gibson Reid. Wilma is survived by her daughter, Jo, and son-in-law, Gilbert, of Lueders, Texas, and her son, Jim, of Edwardsville, Illinois. She had two grandchildren, Emi D. Chavira of Abilene, Texas, and Adam Coode (Alexandra), of Highland, Illinois, and four great-grandchildren, Matt Chavira, Luis Chavira, and Nicole “Nikki Girl” Chavira, of Abilene, Texas, and Aaralyn Coode of Highland, Illinois. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, Henderson.
