David C. Bonnen After a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, David C. Bonnen passed away on March 30, 2017 with his loving family by his side. A longtime attorney in Angleton, he was known and respected not only for his knowledge of the law but also for his honesty and dignity. A visitation will be held from 4 pm until 6 pm on Sunday, April 2 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Danbury followed by a Rosary. The funeral will be held at St. Anthony’s at 3 pm, Monday, April 3. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the College Station Cemetery in College Station. Bonnen was born in Houston on January 6, 1936 to C.A. and Alice McDonald Bonnen. He grew up on the campus of Texas A&M University where his father was a professor. David graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1954, playing all sports and excelling on the football field. He then became a proud member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and graduated in the class of 1958. Fulfilling his dream of becoming a lawyer, David attended the University of Texas Law School and passed the bar exam in 1961. Following law school, Bonnen served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps in Baltimore, MD. Expecting to only serve a six month tour of duty, his tour was extended due to the Berlin Wall crisis forcing him to stay in Baltimore and meet his future wife, Matina Psoras. After leaving the military, David and Tina settled in Angleton where he established his law practice. During his distinguished legal career, in addition to his private practice from which he retired in 2008, David also served as the Angleton City Attorney for nine years. In that capacity, he successfully sued the railroad company for blocking crossings and effectively paralyzing the movements of Angletonians in their daily lives. The suit eventually compelled the construction of an overpass that reliably connects Angleton to the rest of southern Brazoria County. He went on to serve as Municipal Court Judge for the city of Angleton for 15 years. In recognition of his steadfast service to the community, when he retired from the bench, the new municipal court room was named in his honor and June 8, 2010 was proclaimed ‘David Bonnen Day’ by the City of Angleton. In the community, David was active in the Angleton Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Angleton Emergency Medical Corps, and served as president of the Angleton Texas A&M Club, the Angleton Lions Club and the Brazoria County Bar Association. He kept up with every sport played by his beloved Aggies and could recite scores and players from games played decades ago. He enjoyed telling of his summer job on the construction site of the former Aggie landmark G. Rollie White Coliseum and pointing out on the building the cracked sandstone slab that he had dropped. His devotion to his Alma Mater was exemplified by his family establishing two scholarships for Texas A&M students. Bonnen’s high school classmates were lifelong friends and he attended every class reunion. His proudest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his wife Tina and their 4 children: The Honorable Dr. Greg Bonnen and his wife Kim of Friendswood, Dr. Mark Bonnen and his wife Wendy of Houston, Dr. Penelope Eleni Bonnen of Houston and The Honorable Dennis Bonnen and his wife Kim of Angleton. He was a loving and caring grandfather to his grandchildren: Lindsay of Friendswood and Janae of New York City, David and Jessica of Houston, Sebastien, Luca and Alexandre of Houston, and David Jackson and Gregory of Angleton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers James and Jerry. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann O’Meara, Marty Dixon and Patsy Boughton.
