Alice Halbert Obituary

ARLINGTON-Alice Gilcrease Halbert, 85, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 in Mansfield. Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Lake Arlington Baptist Church, 2912 Little Rd, Arlington. Interment: Peoria Cemetery, Peoria. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Alice entered into life on January 18, 1932 in Lockney, Texas. She was very sick the first year of her life, but the Lord preserved and strengthened her for the full life He had prepared for her. The youngest of eight children, she was fondly nicknamed “Doll” by her sister Soney and the name stuck for 85 years. Alice had affectionate memories of her father, Ora Malcolm, rocking her to sleep after dinnertime. The Christ-like marriage displayed by her mother and father was a beautiful picture. The only time they ever argued was when they could not agree with who loved whom more. The Christian legacy and love of God’s word illustrated by her mother, father, and grandmother set the foundation that was the cornerstone of Alice’s life. This allowed Alice to lovingly walk into her role as the wife of James Andrew Halbert, Sr. She strived every day to be better, clinging close to scripture, and implementing Proverbs 31. Raising her children to be God-loving and honorable people was her daily focus as a mother. Brenda, Tommy, and Jimmy were the twinkle in Alice’s eye. She worked at LTV and later at Sears, witnessing about her Jesus to everyone that she met. Her role of doting grandmother began at the young age of 39 and included innumerable grilled cheese sandwiches, cinnamon apples, French toast, Kool-aid, and back scratches. This role only built upon the joy that she had known as a mother. Alice attended every game, concert, dance recital and school function as the blessings increased in number. She was the matriarch of the Halbert family and she led with an air of grace, conviction, sequins, and rhinestones. The precious life that she was given was viewed by her as a gift. The greater gift though was Jesus Christ giving His life for her and she wanted to make sure everyone knew the Good News. Alice Halbert is currently praising her sweet Jesus face to face. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Andrew Halbert Sr.; son, James Andrew “Jimmy” Halbert Jr.; and granddaughter, Karen Nicole Panter. Survivors: Son, Tommy L. Halbert and wife, Tess; daughter, Brenda Halbert Gonzales and husband, Arturo; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Halbert; brother, James Earl “Rooster” Gilcrease; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
