Funeral services for Arthur Burton Ganong, 82, of Godley, will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in the Calvary Baptist Church. Reverends Charles E. Payne and Danny Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow in the Godley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, December 3, 2012 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Johnson County Meals on Wheels at 106 E. Kilpatrick, Cleburne, TX 76031. Mr. Ganong passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 in Fort Worth. He was born to Arthur Burton Sr. and Willie Roberta Arnold Ganong on December 22, 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He married Joyce Faye Gilliam on February 24, 1956 in Godley. Arthur was devoted to his family and church, making them both priorities in his life. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served as former Sunday school superintendent for many years at the Godley Methodist Church. Arthur worked as a painting contractor for over 50 years. He was a member of the Painters Union of Fort Worth, the Elks Lodge, and volunteered as a fireman in Godley. After retiring, he began taking bass guitar lessons and then joined the VFW Band "Misfits" in Crowley and was a member with the Sunshine Band. Arthur was known as a great storyteller, especially enjoying to recall stories of growing up in Goatneck. His quiet spirit and loving nature will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene Ganong. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce Ganong; children, Lisa Davis and her husband, Joe, Kayla Edwards and Jack Graham, and Tony Ganong and his wife, Chelley; grandchildren, Natalie and Ryan Davis, Blake and Brandt Edwards, and McKinlie and Porter Ganong; great grandson, Jaxon Edwards; sisters, Helen Payne and Betty Jolley; sister in law, Linda Ganong; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
