Betty Dunson

Service for Betty Claudine Dunson, 82, of Grandview will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home. Betty Dunson died August 8, 2014, in Alvarado, of complications from the devastation of Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 82 years old. Betty Claudine Brown was born January 4, 1932 in Berwyn, Oklahoma, daughter of Claudia Mae Brown and Willie Lee Brown, and moved to Cleburne in 1945. She graduated from Cleburne High School in 1950, and just one month later married Kenneth Ray Dunson. They were utterly devoted to one another for more than 64 years. Betty was rightly esteemed for many things; for one, her talent as a seamstress, making beautiful objects out of simple materials; and years later she began quilting and crocheting- just for fun, she would say- but also for the pleasure it gave her to pass down to friends and children and grandchildren the afghans and throws she had made. Her fellow church members, first at Anglin Street Church of Christ and then at the Church of Christ in Covington, will remember her lovely singing voice; as do her family, who all their lives had heard her singing softly while at work around the home. But the true measure of her life was displayed in the way she lived every moment with kindness and grace, and never bitterness; a spirit of sweetness, like a light around her that even cruel disease could not extinguish. In many ways she was stolen from us years ago, but even so, her humility and her faith and love have built a gallery of good deeds worthy of our remembrance and celebration. She was the very pattern of moral character and selfless friendship. It is proper to give thanks that such a one has lived among us. Betty was a loving and beloved wife, mother and grandmother, sister, friend. She is survived by husband Kenneth, of Cleburne;children, Mike, of Belton; Dave, of Cleburne; Jan Hardwick, and husband David, of Belton; grandchildren, Cassie Dunson, Jacob Dunson, John David Dunson, Sam Dunson, and Glenn Hardwick, Sharon Hardwick; and one great grandchild, Ava Dunson; her sisters, Alma Gordon, Gayle Lilly, Dorothy Ragland, Linda Livingston, Mary Montanez, Diane Smelley, and brothers, Charles and Don Kyle. And so many others, friends and extended family, who have been blessed to know Betty Dunson as an example of goodness and gentleness and hopeful inner strength. We mourn her, we are less without her, but we give her to God and rejoice that she was with us for a while.
