Charles Edgar Sherrill, II was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on March 27, 1946 and passed away on June 24, 2012. Known as Ed or "Eddie" to his friends, he lived a rich, full life and never passed up on a chance to make it fuller and richer. Ed was known for his booming laugh and quick humor. He was beloved by friends and associates. Like his mother, Joy and brother, Stan, Ed became an English teacher (for a few years). But the classroom could not hold him; he went on to be a real estate broker in Dallas, Texas and enjoyed a long association in that business with one of his best friends, Louis Reese. At one time, Lou and Ed owned an entire block of Commerce Street in Deep Ellum and the Adam Hat Building. They founded Tommy's Heads Up Saloon and were a part of the nighttime entertainment for which Deep Ellum had become so renown. Ed worked closely with Donnie Ray Ford and his group, Liberty Valance, as well as closely following the Cartwrights, Lucky Pierres and Cricket Taylor. Through Lou, Ed began a lifetime passion for the Oil and Gas Business. Ed and Lou drilled for Oil and Gas in Georgia in the late 1970's. Then, Ed with R.J. Smith would found an Oil and Gas Exploration Company that worked up and down the east coast and would lease over one and one half million acres. Ed worked closely with his brother, Stanley F. Sherrill and later became President and later Chairman of the Board of Southeastern Exploration and Production Company of Dallas. At his death, Ed was working on a project in Virginia for a Southeastern subsidiary, Shore Exploration. He had hoped this would be a crowning achievement. His father, Ewing Frank Sherrill and mother, Joy Hargrove Sherrill preceded him in death. Surviving are his brothers, Dr. Reginald Robert Sherrill of Dalton, Georgia and Stanley F. Sherrill and his wife Suzanne of Dallas, Texas. Nephews Jeb Sherrill, Edgar Sherrill and Carl Sherrill of Dallas, Texas, Matt Sherrill of Dalton, Georgia and nieces Jessie Sherrill of Nashville, Tennessee and Leightta Sherrill of Dalton, Georgia. He is also survived by three great nephews, his stepmother, Avanelle Sherrill and an extended family of Suzanne Feit, Taylor Feit, Kenneth and Constance Snow, Susan Reese, Katie Reese, Louis "Beau" Reese, and McKenzie Reese Mitchell (his goddaughter), and Terry Woldt. Like his father, Frank, Ed learned loyalty at an early age and people quickly learned they could count on Ed. Ed was not only a leader but also a true team player. Ed was loved, his friendship valued, and he will be missed. Memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, July 21, 2012 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel.
