Funeral service for Corpus "Charlie" Garcia, 90, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 24, 2011 in the Bible Baptist Church, 1513 Westhill, Cleburne. Dr. Don Shipman and the Reverend Charles E. Payne will officiate. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Corpus "Charlie" Porfirio Morales Garcia went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 after a long illness of heart disease and strokes. He was born May 26, 1921 in Alice, Texas to Manuel and Eugenia Morales Garcia. He married Betty Jean Hart in October 1958. He lived in the Cleburne area for over 60 years. He was well known because he never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone. Corpus will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. He loved his family and extended family very much and would help them whenever he could. He was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church, the former Chase Avenue Baptist Church. He loved his church and was always willing to help. He was a Deacon, a missionary co-chairman and a church bus driver. When his son was young he worked with the Boy Scouts and received the Order of the Arrow. He entered the Army in WWII, when a senior in high school. In a special ceremony in 2002 he received his delayed diploma from Alice High School. Charlie's favorite thing to do was work. He liked to work outside. He was a member of carpenter's local 429 for 46 plus years. He retired many times but was happiest when he was working. Corpus was a truck driver, commercial carpenter, worked on highways, roofer, plumber's helper, did lawn work and an all around handyman. He also liked to raise donkeys and gardens. He enjoyed living on his little farm. He liked to go to flea markets and help vendors sell their fruits and vegetables. Charlie was a member of the Coffee Club at McDonalds when it was on Main Street and a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 50 although he never attended. He loved to play bingo at the East Cleburne Senior Center and the Cleburne Senior Center. Corpus "Charlie" is survived by his beloved wife, Betty of Cleburne; son, David Garcia and wife Meredith of Flower Mound; daughter, Angela "Angie" Garcia Williams and husband Raymond of Grapevine; grandchildren, Amanda Garcia of Dallas and Alex Garcia of Flower Mound and College Station; sister, Mary Garcia Anchondo of Ft. Worth; sister in law, Alice Sanders; brother in law, Jesse Hart and wife Donna; numerous nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends and grandpups, Dakota and Diamond. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Amado and Manuel "Cowboy" Garcia and his beloved blue heeler dog, Sara.
