Dorothy Jean Lucus Obituary

On November 29, 2020, at the age of 93, Dorothy passed from this world into life without end with Christ, in “paradise”, as He said. She was born near Parker in Johnson County, on November 15, 1927 to her adored parents, Claude Burton Fowler and Maggie Lee Tucker Fowler. She gave her life to Jesus Christ at the age of 9 at the Baptist Church in Parker and lived a life of service to Christ, family, church and community. She was an alumna of Rio Vista High School. Being a member of Rio Vista Baptist Church for almost 70 years, she was a great support for her husband, Charles E. Lucus, music minister there for 32 years. He also preceded her in death. The success of her husband and children was directly related to her presence; grandchildren were greatly impacted as well. On August 24, 1947 she married the man who adored her, Charles, at North Cleburne Baptist Church in Cleburne, Texas. They had three children; Rev. Dave E. Lucus (wife Michelle), Dale R Lucus, M.D. (wife Diane), and Jeanna Lucus Johnson (husband Jeff). She would have everyone know that Christians never to say goodbye; that faith; love and hope are eternal. She would have everyone consider who Jesus Christ was and His promise that those who put their trust in Him would never die. Surely the Lord will greet her with, ‘well done, you good and faithful servant”. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers; Claude Wilton, Charles Ray, Billy Glynn; sister; Margie Fowler Hall; grandson, Adron Lucus. Survivors include children, grandchildren (10), great-grandchildren (24), sister-in-law Mary Hardin Flower and Marquitta (Cookie) Fowler, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to employees at Heritage Trails Nursing Home and First Baptist Church Rio Vista. In lieu of flowers, family request donation be made to the Charles and Dorothy Lucus Memorial Music Ministry Fund at First Baptist Church of Rio Vista, P.O. Box 40, Rio Vista , Texas 76093. There will be a small graveside ceremony for family and close friends at the Rio Vista Cemetery on Saturday, December 5, at 2:00 P.M.
