Service for Ernest Benjamin McLean, 87, of Keene will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, Mar. 10, 2013 in the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Russ Laughlin and Pastor Phil Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow in Keene Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Saturday, at the funeral home. Mr. McLean passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 in Keene. He was born Feb. 20, 1926 in Beaver Crossing, Neb. to Alex Butler and Lillian Cross McLean. Ernest grew up as a farmer in York, Neb. as the 8th child in a family of 11. He married Marion Charlene Johnson on July 4, 1948 in Loveland, CO. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2005. Mr. McLean was a United States Marine veteran, inducted on April 6, 1944. He saw action at Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands from April 1944 to Aug. 1945. He was in the Occupation army in China from Sept. 1945 to April 1946 before being discharged on May 6, 1946. Mr. McLean was a mathematics teacher in high school from 1949-1969 and a principal in elementary school from 1978-1991. He also taught at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene from 1969-1978. After retiring he did volunteer work at the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was active in his hobbies, bird watching, surfing the net and sending e-mails. He was a member of Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include his daughters, Janice Miller, MD and husband, Robert Miller, MD, Jean Alway and husband Raymond, all of Keene and Jackie Hecht of Corpus Christi; son, Jim McLean of Pacoima, Calif., Joe McLean and wife Molly of Duluth, Minn; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild; sisters, Lois Roemer of Hinsdale, Ill. and Mary Harris and husband Gridley of Calif.; brother, Orlin McLean and wife Alieen of Hood River, OR; and a number of nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters and two brothers.
