Service for Evelyn Laverne Porter Newsom, 96, of Cleburne will be conducted at 4:00 P.M., Thursday, June 23, 2016 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Great Grandson Dennis Tuttle will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-4:00 P.M., Thursday, prior to the service. Evelyn Laverne Porter Newsom passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 in Cleburne. She was born Feb. 23, 1920 in Covington to John James and Hattie Morris Porter. She married J.D. Newsom on Sept. 18, 1939 in Itasca and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2010. Mrs. Newsom was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grand and great grandmother, sister, and a friend to many. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her daughter, Rita Fossett and husband Dale of Cleburne; sister, Dorothy Nelson of North Richland Hills; grandchildren, Angie, Dianna, Jim, Kevin, and Keith; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Helen Clements; one brother; and three sisters.
