She was born to S.M. Hinojosa and Manuelita Flores Hinojosa October 29, 1923, in Corpus Christi, TX. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School and went right to work at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station as a ‘Rosie, the Riveter’ until she resigned at the war’s end in June of 1945. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary until February 16, 1952 when she married John Y. Hinson Jr., an electronic technician. Soon after their marriage they opened Hinson’s Radio and Television Sales and Service in Robstown and it remained in operation until 1973. She became bookkeeper and secretary for Tino’s TV Service for ten years until the business was sold. In 1989, she moved to Joshua, Texas and managed Mountainaire Mobile Home Park for 20 years until its sale. Tensie then moved to Sunset Mobile Home Park to live and work as manager until her death. Tensie was a life-long dedicated member of the Seventh Day Adventist church for 92 years in Corpus Christi and in Joshua. She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 50 in Cleburne eligible through the military service of her brothers. She loved to laugh and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She played Nintendo and recently began enjoying facebook to stay in touch with her loved ones. She enjoyed working in her garden nurturing plants and flowers; she loved feeding birds – especially hummingbirds and cardinals. Her life was one of service to others. Her hands were always busy crafting gifts for her family and friends – she was known for her pineapple upside down cakes and breakfast tacos. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe Hinojosa, her sisters Ramona Salazar and Mary Hartley. She is survived by four children: daughter: Marty Hinson Peters and husband, Ken of Cleburne; son: John Hinson III of Cleburne; daughter: Ruth Hinson Wheeler and husband, Brian of Tulsa; and son: John Y Hinson IV and wife Rikki of Ft. Worth. Her grandchildren – so dear to her heart are: Marty Wheeler Malone, Megan Wheeler Hubbard, Shannon Wheeler, Josh Hinson, Jesse Hinson, Kirsten and Makensie Hinson, Ken Peters Jr. and Darlene, Debbie Thomason and Marie Peters, Her three beloved brothers Daniel Hinojosa and wife Mary, Carlos Hinojosa and wife Rosario, and Richard Hinojosa and wife Beatrice, all of Corpus Christi. She treasured her many nephews and nieces. The family wishes to thank Texas Oncology for their compassion and efforts, to convey appreciation to Mission Hospice for their loving care and our gratitude to the many friends that visited and prayed with-her and for-her during her illness and a special recognition to Sandra Hart and Darlene Barber for their devoted caregiving. Each of you was very special to her.
