Service for J.D. "Dan" Hicks, 69, of Cleburne will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 28, 2011 in the Calvary Baptist Church. The Reverend Charles E. Payne will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jim Trussell, Burton Barr, Doug Fritz, Zach Farquhar, Mike Claunch and Milton Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Sanders, Butch Rux, Mitchell Spears, John Merritt, Mark Snyder, Dwaine Shawver and Glenn Landry. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, at the funeral home. Mr. Hicks passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in Cleburne. He was born May 1, 1942 in Dallas to James D. and Fayrene Reed Hicks. He married Kate Marie Shockley on Nov. 19, 1976 in DeSoto. Mr. Hicks was a retired mechanical engineer for Texas Utilities Co. with 22 years service and in 1994 he became an engineering construction consultant. Dan was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was the bass singer for the Calvary Quartet for 13 years. He served as the president and treasurer for the Cleburne Carnegie Players for five years. He was a devout Christian, loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Kate Hicks of Cleburne; four children, Kimberly SueZan Carpenter and husband Steve, Stephen Rex Hicks and wife Susan, all of Flower Mound, Juli Markaye McKinney and husband Matt of Medina, OH and Jacob Daniel Hicks and wife Krystal of Carmi, IL.; seven grandchildren, Tyler Alexander Carpenter, Kami Nicole Carpenter, Haley Noelle Carpenter, Matthew Benjamin Hicks, Morgan Ashleigh Hicks, Jackson Montgomery McKinney and Dylan Marshall McKinney; one sister, Linda Jean Conlon and husband John of West Hills, CA; He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jacquelyn Sue Hicks, one brother, Howard Kenton Hicks and one infant daughter, Lisa Marie Hicks.
