Jon Yoes

Graveside service for Jon David Yoes, 80, of Grandview will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 24, 2014 in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home. Mr. Yoes passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at his residence in Grandview. He was born December 22, 1933 in Tom Green County, Texas to Elbert Rector and Annie Lee Taylor Yoes. He married Charlene Thomas on October 5, 1979. Mr. Yoes graduated high school in 1952 in May, Texas and was drafted in the United States Army from 1954-1956 as a radar technician. He sold oilfield supply for seven years and moved to Arlington in 1963. He worked in sales for Sears and Roebuck Company for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He was one of their top sales persons in the Southwest Territory and won numerous awards for sales. In 1987, Mr. Yoes was presented with an Award of Merit for his outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation from the Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District and was named resident conservationist of the year. Mr. Yoes was a hardworking man who loved the land and enjoyed farming and ranching, especially raising Beefmaster cattle and hay. He also planted hundreds of pecan and fruit trees and enjoyed sharing his harvest. He attended New Heart Family Worship Center and Faith Temple in Cleburne. Survivors include his wife, Charlene Yoes of Grandview; sons, Jon Dennis Yoes and wife Sherrie and William Douglas (Bill) Yoes, both of Fort Worth; stepson, Kevin Tarver of Grandview; grandchildren, Avin Douglas Yoes and wife Lauren, Taylor Yoes, James Yoes, and Alec Tarver; great grandson, Layton Yoes; brothers, Donnie Yoes and wife Wylene of May and Bill Yoes and wife Victoria of Abilene; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Elbert Lee Yoes, Opal Parker, Una Thompson, Frances Causey and Jimmie Robinson.
