Service for Joyce Chafin Swatzell, 91 of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 15, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. Visitation will be 5-7:00 P.M., Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the funeral home. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be J.P. Swatzell, George P. Swatzell, Joel Taylor, Aaron Taylor, Yale Swatzell, George Cowden, Tim Taylor, Jason Wallace, Ralph Chafin, Pat Woodruff, Dean Woodruff, Phil D. Swatzell, Jack Swatzell and Lynn Swatzell. Joyce Chafin Swatzell passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Cleburne. She was born August 12, 1927 in Cleburne to Ralph W. and Gurtha Mae (Graham) Chafin. Joyce married Dr. Monte Yale Swatzell on June 23, 1951 in Cleburne. Joyce graduated in 1944 from Cleburne High School. She worked in the state legislature in Austin with her sister, Cloyce after attending business school in Fort Worth. Joyce attended North Texas State University and graduated in 1950. She taught home economics in Garland. She worked at The Corner Shop in Cleburne for over 15 years. Joyce was a member of Main Street Methodist Church and later was a member of First United Methodist where she enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday School for many years. Joyce is survived by her husband Dr. Monte Swatzell of Cleburne; son Yale Swatzell and wife Ann of Gilmer; daughters Kelly Taylor and husband Tim of Fort Worth, Shirley Cowden and husband George of San Antonio; grandchildren, Hallie, J.P., George, Hannah, Joel, Aaron; great grandchildren Sadie, Charlotte, Helen, Catherine and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law and sister in law. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, son, Jere Chafin Swatzell, brother, Carl Chafin and wife Jane, twin sister Cloyce Woodruff and husband John
