A memorial service and celebration of life for Martha Jane West, 75, of Covington, will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at Martha's farm, with lunch to follow. Ms. West passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in Cleburne. She was born Feb. 27, 1937 in Ft Worth, TX to Jesse H. and Ophelia Vossler West. She was retired from Alcan in Houston with 30 years service as a general manager. She was an independent, strong-willed lady with a big heart. Martha played professional softball for over 15 years both in Ft. Worth and Houston. She raised, trained, and raced horses as well as farmed for a number of years. Martha was a member of North Cleburne Baptist Church. Her outgoing nature and sense of integrity will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents; and a nephew, Phillip West. Survivors include her siblings, Charles West and wife Mary, Shirley Greene and husband Joe, and Linda Davis and husband George; nieces and nephews, Gregory West, March Ann Mann, Luther Cummings, Terri Kennedy, George Davis, Jr. and Joetta Payne; seven great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
