Services for Myrtle Applegate Hodges, 81, of Covington will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 13, 2019 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the funeral home. Myrtle Applegate Hodges passed away at her home on Monday, September 9, 2019 in Covington due to complications from Alzheimer’s. She was born February 27, 1938 in Floyd County, Texas to Lewis (Buck) and Katie (Darr) Applegate the youngest of 7 children. At a young age the family moved to Blum, where she grew up and attended school. There she met the love of her life, Donald Eugene Hodges. They were married on July 10, 1955 in Blum. They made their home in Blum and raised four children. Myrtle enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, sewing, fishing, cooking and baking. She had a special interest in Iris and Day Lilies that resulted in flowers hybridized and grown as one of a kind flower. She was a member of the Johnson County Iris and Day Lily Society. She was a member of Woodrow Baptist Church and served as Treasurer and taught youth Sunday School. Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Maner, Curtis; sisters, Ruby Anding, Lorene Calahan and Janie Day. Myrtle is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald E. Hodges of Covington; children Deborah Campbell (Troy) of Covington, Ricky Hodges (Kim) of Covington, Laura Hodges and David of Houston, Cindy Segars (Joe) of Blum; grandchildren, Stephanie Allen (Luke) of Grand Island, Nebraska, Heather Akasha (Shawn) of Grand Island Nebraska, R.J. Hodges (Brandi) of Rio Vista, Kevin Hodges (Trista) of Cleburne, Mikala Jansen (Ethan) of Covington, Jason C. Hodges (Mindy) of Godley, Jason Banton of Fort Worth, Mandi Fielder (James) of Houston, Jeremy Hodges (Michelle) of Houston, Melissa Miles (Randy) of Houston, Josh Segars (Lorrin) of Rio Vista, Allison Lane (Trevor) of Keene, Abby Segars of Blum, Annie Segars of Blum; great grandchildren, Micheal, Katie, Emily, Avery, Aiden, Mirianna, Parks, Brinley, Kenzie, Zeplyn, Larmie, Jaiden, Sophia, Jace Kaitlyn, Jaxon, Wesley, Nolan, Jake, June, Brooks; great great grandchildren, Julian, Owen, Layla; sister, Anna Lou Curlee of Cleburne; sister-in-law, Nita McDowell of Raleigh and a host of nieces and nephews. The family is thankful for the loving care Myrtle was given by Providence Hospice of Whitney. Sherra could get a smile from her often, Michele, Erika, Wilda, Nancy were some wonderful nurses. Laura, Melissa and Kim were always there for us to answer questions, to talk to us and give their support. All of you were a blessing to us.
