Rod Cotton Obituary

Service for Rod Ell Cotton, 92, of Cleburne, will be conducted at Noon, Saturday, September 17, 2011 in the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church. The Reverend Demetrius Warren and the Reverend John Warren will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerome Cotton, J.R. Cotton, Kip Cotton, Kris Overton, Jason Cotton and Zach Pollard. Visitaiton will be from 6-8 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home. Mr. Cotton passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 in Beaumont. He was born August 8, 1919 in Mexia to Walter and Veola Ross Cotton. He married Jerolene Williams on August 16, 1943 in Groesbeck. Mr. Cotton served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a retired school teacher with CISD, where he taught Math and Physics for over 36 years. He was a Boy Scout leader in the community for 50 years and was also active in the Cleburne Kiwanas Club. Survivors include his children, Rod Ell Cotton Jr. and wife Velvett of Grand Prairie, Kenneth Cotton and wife Pamela of Savannah, GA, Sharon Cotton of Cleburne, Roland Cotton and wife Ramona of Beaumont and Ricky Cotton and wife Cheryl of Dallas; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jerolene Cotton in 1991 and one daughter, Barbara Overton.
