Funeral services for Judy “MeeMaw” Houston, 75, of Cleburne, Texas will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Rosser Funeral Chapel in Cleburne. Burial will follow in Rio Vista Cemetery. A visitation and rosary for family and friends will be held from 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, August 3, 2020 at Rosser Funeral Home. Judy “MeeMaw” Houston went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 31, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born September 20, 1944 in San Luis Obispo, California to Monieree (Harner) and Cecil Grimes. She married James Houston on July 13, 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas. Judy met and fell in love with her beloved Jimmy when she was a teenager attending Wichita Baptist Church. They were married and began building a life together. Judy had a lifelong passion for helping people. She was the first to reach out if she heard that someone was in need. She especially loved helping children, adopting five, fostering over fifty, and welcoming in plenty of others that just needed somewhere to stay. She made it a priority to attend every school event for her many children and grandchildren. Judy worked tirelessly raising children while pursuing her degree in Elementary Education. She graduated with her degree in her fifties and later taught at Rio Vista and Covington Independent School Districts. Judy was ambitious and completed anything she set her mind to. Her biggest goal was to let every person that crossed her path know that they were safe, worthy, and loved. She advocated for children, was a champion for the lonely, believed in second chances, and was always the first to forgive. Looking back on Judy’s life, her family has been absolutely perplexed trying to figure out how she had the time to learn so many skills and achieve so many dreams. Wife, Mother, Friend, Elementary School Teacher, Pilot, Seamstress, Cake Decorator, Church Pianist, Sunday School Teacher, Story Teller, Business Owner, Majorette, Baton Instructor, Campfire Leader, Cubscout Leader, Tee-ball Coach, Basketball Coach, Ticket Agent, World Traveler, Spoon Collector, Gardener, and Volunteer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Houston in 2017; and a sister, Joycelyn Marrs. Survivors include her sons, Robert Houston and wife Tammy of Cleburne, James Houston and wife Rhonda, of Davis, Oklahoma, Christopher Houston and wife, April of West and Dion Houston of Cleburne; daughters, Ronda Allison and husband, David of Cleburne, Marla Henson and husband Nolan of Lubbock, and Rachel Houston of Cleburne; brother, Stevan Grimes and wife, Danielle of Tennessee; sister, Janis Franks of Grandview, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. It is incredibly difficult to sum up such a powerhouse of a human in just a few paragraphs. Judy’s many children, grandchildren, great grand children and dear friends make up a grand legacy. She has touched the hearts of so many people that will go into the world offering kindness, compassion, and help to those in need. We would highly recommend that you ask a friend or family member of Judy to tell you their favorite story about her. We only wish we could hear them from her one more time.
