After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he began his teaching career in 1951 at Purdon, Texas while attending college in the summer. He retired from his career in education after 45 years of service to many communities. He had a funny sense of humor and a dry wit, that he used as a teaching tool in school and in teaching life lessons. He was a good man and a great dad. He also coached youth football, basketball and baseball and was a founding father of the Mildred Little League and served as the president the first few years. He also brought Mildred Yearbook to life and served as the sponsor (72 – 74). His son, Ronny said that he grew taller than Johnny, but his dad’s life cast a far greater and longer shadow.
