Mrs. Verna Bess Collins, 85, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016. She was born on March 5, 1931 in Blanket Springs Community in Mills County, Texas to George and Lizzie Vann Burkett. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; daughter, Cheryl; two grandchildren; seven sisters and many more treasured family members and friends. She is survived by her daughters; Linda Watson and husband, Fred; Sherry Cheek and husband, Mike; Debra Pope and husband, Gary; Karen Coker and husband, Johnny and her son-in-law Danny Richards and wife, Cecilee; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She attended school in Mullin, Texas; Lake Charles, Louisiana; and Comanche, Texas. She married Jim Collins on October 4, 1945 at the home of her parents in Comanche, Texas with Rev. E.G. Gregory officiating. The Collins moved to Corsicana in 1952. She earned her G.E.D. at Kilgore College in 1976. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Collins worked for Corsicana School Food Service, Hunnicutt Carpet and Andrews Flooring until she retired in 2010. Mrs. Collins was an extremely loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many people. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Northside Baptist Church with Bro. Randal Whitt officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Cheek, Matt Richards, Marc Pope, Jeremy Coker, Grant Mitchell, Garett Mitchell and Gage Mitchell. Interment will follow in Hamilton Beeman Cemetery.
