Obituary for Frances Ann Johnson

Frances "Shan" Johnson, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, June 13, 2009. Shan was born in July, 1931, and raised in Cimarron, N.M. by her parents, Roy and Agnes Cartwright, on the Philmont Scout Ranch where her father was the general manager. Shan was valedictorian of Cimarron High School and attended New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M. She owned an antique shop in El Paso, Texas, was an office manager of Pocono Downs Racetrack in Wilkes-Barre, PA, owned and raced thoroughbreds in New Mexico, was a member of the New Mexico Horseman's Association, was a horsewoman, a naturalist, an athlete and an avid animal lover. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Art Johnson; her sisters, Shirlee Miller and husband Lamont of Cheyenne, WY; Donna Sultemeier and husband Bill of Cimarron N.M.; her children, Roy Johnson, 57; Tom Johnson, 55, and Shauna Salerno 48 and husband Tony; her grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson and wife Bonnie, Ryan Johnson and wife Shawna, Chase Johnson and wife Kristin, Lacey Johnson, Krista Matis and husband Steve, Kyle Salerno and Kaylee Salerno, and her great grandchildren Boston and Baylor Johnson. Chapel Services will be held in El Paso at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5054 Doniphan Drive, Thursday, June 18, starting at 1 p.m. Instead of flowers she requested donations to Pet Guardian Angel Welfare Association, Inc., a pet adoption agency. Phone: (915) 598-0411. Hillcrest Crematory will be conducting cremation services. Graveside services will be held in Cimarron, N.M., on Saturday, June 20, at 10 a.m.
