Russell James Whited Obituary

Services for Russell James Whited Sr., 58, of Quitman, are scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Brent Allender officiating. He went to be with his Lord after a long battle with cancer on June 11, 2017 at 1:50 pm in his home surrounded by loved ones. Russell was born in Snyder, Texas on March 21, 1959 to Orville and Judy (Muncy) Whited. He married his wife, the love of his life, Margaret Branin in Jal, New Mexico on December 15, 1978. Mr. Whited was preceded in death by his dad Orville Whited. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Whited of the home: four daughters, Tara Whited-Trever of Bettie, Texas, Erica O’Bryon and son-in-law James of Rockwall, Texas, Erin Gonzales and son-in-law Raymond Beau of Grand Saline, Texas and Kaylee Whited of the home; two sons, Russell Whited Jr. and daughter-in-law Rhonda of Roswell, New Mexico and James Whited of the home; eleven grandchildren, Abigail, Divinity Joy (DJ) and Gavin Trever; Alyson, Maegan, Russell James III (RJ), Nathanial and Isabelle Whited; Brennon and Elyssa O’Bryon and Liam Gonzales. He is also survived by his mother, Judy Whited of Tatum, New Mexico; sisters, Becky Morehead and brother-in-law Gary of Tatum, New Mexico and Cheryl Richardson and brother-in-law Jack of Ruidoso, New Mexico; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Russell was a hard-working man who spent most of his working days in the Oil Field in Texas and New Mexico. He owned and operated his own businesses, from pumping, Roustabout Service Company, and dirt construction, to his own production company. He retired and moved to Quitman, Texas in May 2013 where he didn’t stay retired for long, when he purchase Grand Saline Quick Lube in Nov 2014. His family was his pride and joy, he cherished every moment with them. He was strong, brave, honorable and kind. He always stood up for what he believed to be true. He loved life; God and family always first, hunting second and fishing third. Russell had hunted and fished all over the USA and as far away as the wild lands in Africa to the waters of Mexico. While he was a competitive fisherman, he represented the New Mexico B.A.S.S. Federation at many of the Southwestern U.S. Regional Tournaments and took home several “Big Bass” awards. Russell also guided hunting trips on his Big Buck Ranch in New Mexico. He was an amazing, wonderful and supportive husband, daddy, pops, son, brother, uncle and cousin. Russell was a man who would move mountains for the ones he loved. He enjoyed hearing the laughter of his wife, kids, and grandkids as they played games and always had his 2 cents to put in on how to play the game. Russell left a deep impression on everyone that met him with his encouraging words, straight forward opinions, honest heart and the willingness to give others the opportunity to grow and learn. He will be missed by all that called him sweetheart, daddy, pops, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. We find comfort and hope in knowing that he loved God and has found a new place to call home in heaven alongside his Lord and Savior Jesus. Honorary pallbearers will be James Whited, Thomas Whited, Gary Whited, Phil Hallman, James O’Bryon and Beau Gonzales. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
