Ann Davlin Obituary

Ann was born June 5th, 1938 in San Antonio Texas to Edgar and Gertrude Willmann. She was the second of three children and the only girl. At age 11, her life changed forever when a devastating car crash killed her father and left her in a body cast from chin to toes. With her husband gone, her mother struggled to hold the family together against tremendous odds finally owning and operating a flower shop that she ran for over 50 years. Ann's recovery was grueling. She was told she would never walk, would never have children, but eventually she joined her mother in the flower shop working alongside her on smaller arrangements and corsages. During this time she was still able to earn a scholarship to Trinity University where she graduated in just three years with a degree in math. She immediately began her long teaching career in math and science, where she pushed boundaries by presenting creationism along with the excepted theory of evolution. After retiring from teaching, she entered the challenging oil and gas corporate world. She was thrilled with the fast pace, technical work and most of all stimulating coworkers, young engineers who excepted her as one of their own. There she made friends that she treasured for the rest of her life. She retired from BP looking forward to focusing on yet another career, the one she waited her whole life to pursue, art, but by this time the damage to her body began to take its toll and she was faced with multiple surgeries to replace knee, hip and jaw joints that had deteriorated. But she fought through the pain and recoveries to paint her way to astounding achievements and awards. Her art traveled around the country as part of various shows. She was recognized in several prestigious citywide shows and most notably placed in an international juried show. She sold her art to Foleys department store where it was hung throughout after remodeling. One of her biggest achievements was hanging a one person show in the downtown landmark Christ Church Cathedral, where thousands saw her work in the bustling dining hall that fed jurors on a daily basis. Student, florist, teacher, geotech, artist and mother: she excelled at them all against great odds. I have such deep admiration and love for this amazing woman. She was smart, funny and tenacious and added so much to those who knew her and were fortunate enough to spend time with her. She did what she had to do, but also had the courage to follow her dreams. After her passing I discovered just how many people's lives she touched and who considered her a dear friend. She never complained and she never asked, "Why me?" She didn't have time; She was busy living life. Memorial Service: It is with deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of Ann Louise Davlin, beloved Mother, on March 11, 2017. She died unexpectedly early Saturday morning from complications following a Friday evening heart attack. A memorial service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Spring, Texas on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10 AM.
