Loyce Plessala DeWitt Obituary

Loyce Plessala DeWitt, affectionately known as Momite, died on September 26, 2016, on the eve of her 88th birthday in Houston, Tx. She was born in Loreauville, La., to Rose Segura Plessala and Sidney J. Plessala, Jr. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Port Arthur, Tx., at the age of 16. After graduation, she worked for her two uncles at a pharmacy (owned by Milton Plessala) and grocery store (owned by Claude Plessala) in Port Arthur. She later met and married J. W. DeWitt. They had five children. Together they built and operated DeWitt Heating and Air Conditioning in Groves, Tx. In 1986, she moved to Houston, where she worked in the restaurant industry with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Leo Kalantzakis. As hostess, she formed a strong relationship with her customers at Casa del Rey and Chesterfield’s Restaurant in downtown Houston. After retiring from the restaurant business, she worked for Dr. Lin Jia at the Acupuncture and Herbs Wellness Center as a receptionist.

She is survived by her five children: Van DeWitt and wife Kathy; Lynda DeWitt Kalantzakis, widow of Leo Kalantzakis; Mark DeWitt and wife Theresa; Debbie DeWitt Hanna and husband Reagan; and Gaye DeWitt Hablinski and husband Craig. She is also survived by her brother, Erne Plessala, Sr., eleven grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons George Kalantzakis, Matthew DeWitt Seidel, Christopher DeWitt, Chance Hanna, Connor Hanna, Jace DeWitt, and Zachary Hablinski.

The family will receive visitors at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive, Houston, Tx. 77080, on Thursday, September 29, starting at 5:00 pm and ending with a rosary recitation at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at the same location on Friday, September 30 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Mrs. DeWitt’s memory to St. Jerome Catholic School (www.stjeromecs.org) in care of Sister Eleanor.
