Michael (Mike) Dean Cartwright passed away of natural causes on July 14, 2016 at his home in Houston, Texas; he was 66 years old. Mike was born July 21, 1949 in Toppenish, Washington to Clifford Wesley & Obedah (Shipman) Cartwright. He was raised primarily in Oklahoma, but moved to Houston, Texas with his mother for his senior year of high school and graduated from John H. Reagan High School, now known as Heights High. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1973 as a jet mechanic while he was stationed in Beeville, TX. After the Navy, Mike had various jobs, including working for Hughes Tool Company and the Texas Department of Corrections. An avid sports fan, Mike loved the Houston Astros, Houston Texans, Texas Longhorns and Baylor Bears - he never missed watching a game. Other hobbies included fishing, hunting and eating his mother’s strawberry cake and Flying Saucer Pie Company pies. He is survived by his mother, Obedah Walters; sons Jeremy Cartwright and his wife Brooke, Micah Cartwright and his wife Jill, and Trey Cartwright; brother Jay Walters and his wife Kim; sister Janette Hudspeth and her husband Arthur; grandchildren Jonah Cartwright, Hudson Cartwright, Annabelle Cartwright, Mason Cartwright, Charlie Cartwright and Zoey Cartwright; nephews Austin Hudspeth and Connor Hudspeth. He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Wesley Cartwright and step-father J.D. Walters. Visitation will be Friday, July 22 from 12:00-1:00 PM followed by funeral services at 1:00 PM at Integrity Funeral Care, 3915 Dacoma St., Suite E, Houston, TX 77092.
