Mildred May Stewart Obituary

Mildred May Stewart received her angel wings Friday, August 19, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  She is survived by her loving family; husband of 60 years, Frank Stewart, daughter Kathy (Katy) Whelan, grandson Dustin Whelan, & son-n-law Charles Edwards.  She is predeceased by her loving parents Clarence M. Hudson & Hazel May Hudson.

Mildred (Millie) was a native Houstonian and graduated from Jeff Davis High School in1952. Millie received her Insurance Agents recording license after studying at the University of Houston. In 1961 she and husband, Frank, started Stewart Insurance Agency which they operated until 2006.

Mille’s passion in life was music which she expressed through her dedication to the church.  As a young woman she played piano at her church and then went on to sing in the choir for over 50 years.  Millie’s love of music later extended outside of the church to the Houston Horizon Chorus chapter of Sweet Adelines, an award winning a cappella barbershop chorus, which she was dedicated to for over 15 years.  The chorus became her passion and she made many life-long friends within her chorus family.

Millie had an adventurous streak and was known to family & close friends as Silly Millie. After husband Frank began flying his own plane in the mid ’60s, Millie decided that she would also get her pilots license.  She and Frank enjoyed flying for many years.  Millie could handle just about any form of transportation from “captaining” the family’s motor boat, sometimes scaring the pants off of her family, four wheeling, driving a motorhome, pulling a camper to riding a bicycle backwards while sitting on the handlebars.

Millie had a heart as big as Texas and was always helping those in need.  We will remember her genuine smile, her warmth and giving spirit, her feisty and sassy wit, her abundant energy, her love for life, family and friends as wells as colleagues and clients, many of whom also became lifelong friends.  Millie made a difference in every life that she touched.

A Memorial Celebration of Millie’s life will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Ln., Houston, TX 77042, Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the church library.
