Robert Robertson Obituary

Robert Roy Robertson, Jr., devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful friend passed away peacefully on October 6, 2019 at the age of 87. Bob was born in Stamford Texas on September 2, 1932 to Robert and Fay Robertson. Bob attended Rice University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. During his senior year at Rice, Bob realized that he didn’t really like wandering around chemical plants so, after graduation, he joined the United States Navy as a Lieutenant and completed a tour of duty on the USS Silverstein Destroyer Escort. Upon returning to Texas, Bob attended the University of Texas to pursue a Master of Finance degree. Upon graduation, he joined First City National Bank and quickly rose to become the youngest Senior Vice President in the bank’s history. Bob was highly thought of by his peers and became a shining star in the banking world where he was much admired for his brilliant financial mind. After a long career in banking, Bob ended his tenure with First City National Bank when he retired and began his pursuit of “peace of mind”. Upon retirement, Bob spent over 20 years working with St. John the Divine Episcopal Church’s Stephen’s Ministry offering guidance and care to many throughout the church and community. One of Bob’s greatest gifts was his ability to carefully listen and give all of his attention to the troubled words or problems he was confronted with throughout his years of service in the Stephen’s Ministry. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fay Williams Robertson and Robert Roy Robertson Sr., and his sister and brother-in-law, Joan Robertson Goyen and John (Johnny) Wilson Goyen. Bob is survived by daughter, Susan E. Robertson, granddaughter Kathryn E. McClure and spouse Quintin McClure, and great-granddaughter Peyton E. Emerson; daughter, Shelley E. Robertson; daughter, Jennifer A. Quilkey and spouse Paul Quilkey and granddaughters Ashley Stevenson, Sarah Quilkey, Rebecca Quilkey, and grandson Eric Quilkey; daughter Jeanine M. Johnson and grandsons Clayton L. Johnson and Lukas K. Johnson; nephews, John W. Goyen, III and Robert J. Goyen, and Robert’s children, Amanda G. Rossen and Rebecca G. Parrott and his son Robert J. Goyen, Jr. Bob was honorable, truthful, intelligent, kind, enjoyed conversation, and was the best dinner partner anyone could wish to be seated next to at a formal affair. His was a life well lived and a testimony to the goodness of mankind. Please join us for a celebration of Bob’s remarkable life at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Walden Yacht Club, 13101 Melville Drive, Montgomery, Texas 77356 Any memorial donations may be made to St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Seniors Ministry Memorial Fund, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard, Houston Texas 77019. “I don't want to repeat a single day and I don't want tomorrow until midnight tonight because the only reality in this life is the present moment so do good with it.” – Robert Roy Robertson, Jr.
