Verna Villazana Obituary

Verna Jeanne Villazana (Slape,) of Houston, Texas, beloved Mother, lost her battle to ALS, which she bravely fought for five years, on Thursday, September 28, 2017, in The Woodlands, Texas. A private family gathering to celebrate Verna's life will be held at a later date in El Paso, Texas. Integrity Funeral Care is in charge of arrangements. Verna was born in El Paso, Texas on July 17, 1951 to Johnie L. Slape and Anna C. Slape (Rodriguez.) Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Verna relocated to several areas throughout her life to include Sandstone, Minnesota, Orange, Texas, where she owned a successful Italian restaurant, then finally, Houston, Texas. Verna's heart was as big as Texas, as a devoted Mother, Grandmother, and a loving spouse. She was family orientated, enjoyed listening to mostly 80s music, and spending her free time playing online games. She had a creative, artistic mind and loved to cook, which will be missed by anyone who was lucky enough to sample any one of her signature dishes. She was loved by many and her smile would light up any room she entered. Family meant a lot to Verna and she loved to live life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, but most of all spending time with her daughters. Verna had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep, and positive way and she will be sorely missed by all, to include her canine companions: Kane and Sebastian. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Villazana. Survivors include her children: William E. Villazana of Houston, TX, David R. Brown and his wife April (Stamps) of Rio Rancho, NM, Yvonne Michelle Vargas and her husband Bill Pullen Jr. of Orange, TX, and Verna Aida Villazana of Houston, TX. Four brothers: Johnie L. Slape, Jr. and his wife Rosaherlinda of El Paso, TX, Tom E. Slape and his wife Hayley of Roswell, NM, Henry W. Slape of Hobbs, NM, and Dale E. Slape of El Paso, TX. Four grandchildren: Rian E. Vargas, Diandra D. Vargas, Jessica M. Brown and Jaden D. Brown, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
