RIOS, Charles Age 92, passed away Friday, August 6 at noon at Baylor Medical Center of Grapevine. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, with a scripture service to begin at 5 p.m. at Forest Ridge Funeral Home, Hurst. Charles was born on April 13, 1923 to Luiz and Felipa Rios, and was raised in San Antonio, Texas. At 18, Charles joined the United States Army Air Force and served his country during World War II, stationed first in Los Angeles and then in Hawaii as an airplane mechanic. During his service, he and his crew were chosen to do maintenance work on the Enola Gay. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant with the 1522nd Army Air Force and moved with his wife Elvia to Dallas, where they raised twin boys, Don and Mike, and their daughter Janet. Charles obtained his associates degree in engineering from SMU and worked for LTV, which later became Lockheed. After LTV, Charles worked for Bell Helicopter. He retired at 67 and enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad with his wife. Charles and Elvia moved to Grapevine in 1994 and were members of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Charles Rios never met a stranger. Full of advice for healthy living, he was always proud that most people were shocked when they learned his age. He was very proud of putting all of his children through college, and that all of them earned subsequent graduate degrees. Charles was predeceased by his wife, his sister Josie, and his brothers Albert, Rudy, and Luis.
