David Stewart Thornton passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. He will be missed by his family and a vast network of friends. Celebration of life: A celebration of David's remarkable life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Martin United Methodist Church, 2621 Bedford Road, Bedford. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Mid-Cities Optimist Club, P.O. Box 463, Hurst, Texas 76053. David was born May 11, 1954, in Dallas to Dillard Stewart Thornton and Annie Bell Barr Thornton. The family moved to Fort Worth when David was very young. David graduated from O.D. Wyatt High School, Tarrant County Junior College and the University of Texas at Arlington. While attending UTA, he was a member of the wheelchair basketball team. He retired from the federal government after 30 years of service, 28 with the Internal Revenue Service. Active in the Bedford community, David was an alumnus of the Bedford Citizens Police Academy and served on several city boards and commissions. At the time of his death, he was a member of Martin United Methodist Church, the Apple Corps Sunday School Class, and the Mid-Cities Optimist Club (past president). He was preceded in death by his father, Dillard Stewart Thornton; and his grandparents. Survivors: David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Becky; mother, Annie Bell; sisters, Kellen Diamanti (Mike) and Kathy Holton (Larry); brothers, Scott (Laura) and Bruce (Cheryl); nieces, Amanda Day (Trevor), Anne Marie Thornton and Megan Brown; nephews, Trent and Dimitri Diamanti, Andrew Thornton and Brian Thornton; grand-nephew, Rhett Day; father-in-law, Glenn Uffelman; sisters-in-law, Debbie Maday, Nancy Carpenter (Greg), Kim Uffelman and Pam Brown (Tim); and numerous cousins.
