Emanuel Edison "Ed" Richardson, nearly 83 years old, of Bedford, Texas, died Thursday 18th of September, 2014 In Arlington, Texas after a long battle with cancer Private graveside service officiated by the Reverend Donald Johnson, son-in-law of the deceased. Born 28 October, 1931 in Shattuck, Oklahoma, he was the son of Lorenzo Dow Richardson and Ella Mae Cooley Richardson, the eighth of ten children. Ed was a 1951 graduate of Shattuck High School. He married Sandra Jo Wasson July 7, 1956 at Earth, Texas. Ed retired after 27 years from Southern Methodist University where he was the electrical supervisor in the Physical Plant Department. After retirement he volunteered with the Southwest Video and Film Archives. He was named Volunteer of the year in 1991 for his "sneak previews" of films for Student Activities where everyone knew him as "Mr. Ed". Born in rural western Oklahoma near Shattuck, he moved to west Texas where he met his wife after his military service in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. They lived in Lubbock, Texas and them moved to Bedford Texas, where they have lived for 49 years. From his youth he has always been interested in film and cinema, working in local movie theaters and e film archives to preserve that dying art form. Ed was an upstanding man who served his country, his community, and his family with respect, dignity, and honor.In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be sent to Health Services of North Texas 4310 Mesa Dr. Denton, TX 76207 (940) 381-1501 http://www.healthntx.org or to a favorite charity. Thank you to the Sixty-first Street Gang and many friends and family members for love and prayer support during this difficult time. Ed is survived by Sandra Richardson of Bedford, Texas, Emanda Richardson Johnson of Denton, Texas and her husband Donald K. Johnson, Charles Randel Richardson of Hurst, Texas and his wife Irina Gubkina Richardson, and Keira Brea Richardson, his only grandchild. Of Ed's siblings, sister Bonita Parker, brother Charles Ramon Richardson, survive him as do and many, many beloved nieces and nephews from around the country. A special "Family of Choice" is the 61st Street Gang, families and friends of more than fifty years from Lubbock, Texas. Ed was predeceased by his parent and eight of his siblings.
